Visualization

Close your eyes and imagine this. Cornflower blue sky with random white billowy clouds, warm sun, light breeze, a solitary canoe floating in the middle of a lake, utter silence except for the soft lapping of water against the boat and the occasional loon singing. Perched on the bow, toes gently skimming the water surface, fishing rod in one hand, a glass of bacarrdi apple rum in the other. The hypnotic rock of the boat pacifies as it drifts further and further out. Time is lost, thoughts are deep and true appreciation for life is prevelant. Thats how I spent my Saturday afternoon. We went off shoring camping for 4 days. Canoe'd into an isolated island off the Rideau river near Perth, Ontario. The only sign of human existance was a small cedar, floating dock for the boat. Days were spent fishing, swimming, hiking, daydreaming, all in complete isolation. I was pleasantly surprised how well my girls adapted. They loved having their own, private swimming hole and spent the days jumping off the dock, laughing as their toes brushed against the fearless, small perch that lingered beneath. There were no bathrooms, no shower, no people. Bathing consisted of natural soap and a jump in the lake. We caught a 6 pound bass Saturday at dawn and pan fried it for dinner. It was absolutely delicious. I spent most of my weekend fishing off the dock or in the boat. The Rideau has so many varieties of fish. I caught mainly bass, a few small perch and trout. The evenings were spent by the fire, drinking warmed run, saving the world with heavy conversation. It was a wonderful weekend
